Business Environment

The Four Global Boundary Conditions powerfully shape the business environment and define how organizations must interact within that environment in order to achieve sustained business performance. The key to dealing effectively with this constant pressure is to maintain an interdependent balance between a deep sense of organizational purpose, identity, and core ideology to create internal stability and at the same time relentlessly pursue progress and learning with an externally and internally focused learning culture. In an Externally Focused Learning Culture, the foci of organizational reality and learning lie in the dynamic interaction with customers, suppliers, competitors, and trends in the business environment.  Consequently, the desire to meet these demands powerfully influences the organization’s purpose, objectives, goals, policies, and decision-making and enables it to develop a robust portfolio of revenue streams. In an Internally Focused Learning Culture, the foci of organizational reality and learning are embodied in an introspective attitude that questions an organization’s assumptions, attitudes, motivations, and ways of doing business. The relentless pursuit of both internal stability and constant progress and learning at the same time creates an “essential tension” that enables an organization to adapt to an ever-changing world that challenges an organization’s ability to:

  • Generate Revenue
  • Manage the availability and Cost of Resources
  • Navigate Industry and Market Trends
  • Develop a Competitive Strategy
